Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti 50th Anniversary Demo Released

Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti 50th Anniversary

As part of the Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti 50th anniversary, Jimmy Page has shared a rare early recording that offers a new perspective on how one of the album’s standout tracks came together.

The newly released demo captures the early instrumental foundation of what would later become “Ten Years Gone.”

Early Recording Reveals Song Development

The demo was originally recorded at Page’s home studio at Plumpton Place. He later brought the rough version to sessions at Headley Grange, where the band began shaping it into a finished track.

During that process, Robert Plant contributed lyrics, transforming the instrumental idea into the completed version of “Ten Years Gone.”

Physical Graffiti’s Impact and Success

Released on February 24, 1975, Physical Graffiti was the sixth studio album by Led Zeppelin and their first issued through Swan Song Records. The double album quickly became one of the band’s most significant releases.

It topped the Billboard 200 for six weeks and also reached No. 1 in both the United Kingdom and Canada. The album made history as the first to earn Platinum certification based on preorders alone and has since been certified 16-times Platinum in the United States.
