Big Black Cow Records is a family-run independent label rooted in the recording heritage of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and driven by disciplined execution.
Founded by Jesse Walker, known by his naval aviation call sign “CHUNK,” the label reflects a life shaped by both professional musicianship and aviation. While studying Music Education at the University of North Alabama, CHUNK recorded his first record at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. He later left the university to tour in support of Pauper’s Field, the debut release by his brother-in-law, Dylan LeBlanc. During that time, CHUNK worked within the creative community surrounding FAME Studios, gaining firsthand experience in both studio recording and live performance.
CHUNK is currently serving on active duty as a United States Naval Aviator, with more than 15 years of service, four deployments, and over 3,000 flight hours. The discipline of aviation — preparation, accountability, precision, and teamwork — defines how Big Black Cow Records operates. Creative work is supported by structure. Execution matters.
The label and its accompanying record store are operated as a true family endeavor. CHUNK’s daughter, Scarlett Walker, helps run every aspect of the label and store operations — from daily management to creative direction and customer engagement — ensuring that the business remains hands-on and generational in spirit.
Big Black Cow Records is built on extended family as well. The foundation includes CHUNK’s brother-in-law, Dylan LeBlanc; his father-in-law, James LeBlanc; James’s wife, Angela Hacker; and their son, Bay Simpson — a multi-generation family connected to the FAME lineage and the broader Muscle Shoals recording tradition.
