The ultimate key to success involves using the right water, measuring the proper amount of fluid, and ensuring the vinyl dries completely before playback or storage.
Before beginning the process, gather a few basic maintenance items:

To achieve a deep clean, you must prepare the basin correctly.
Start by installing the rollers into the correct slots for the specific size of the record you are cleaning. Spin-Clean systems feature three distinct roller positions to accommodate 12-inch LPs, 10-inch records, and 7-inch singles. Ensure the rollers snap firmly into place before introducing any liquid.
Next, fill the basin with distilled water exactly up to the designated fill line. Utilizing distilled water is strongly recommended because standard tap water contains dissolved minerals. If used, these minerals can dry inside the vinyl grooves and contribute to surface noise during playback.
Pour the Spin-Clean cleaning fluid directly along the top of the brushes, using the amount recommended on your specific bottle size. The fluid is designed to bond with dirt and force it to sink to the bottom of the basin.
Once the unit is fully prepared, insert the cleaning brushes completely into the basin slots. Always hold the record strictly by its edges or the center label so you never touch the delicate playback grooves.

Place the record into the washer and rotate it slowly. The standard procedure is to complete about three full turns clockwise, followed by three full turns counterclockwise.

Applying even, gentle pressure helps avoid accidental fingerprints and keeps the record moving smoothly through the liquid bath. If a specific record is especially dirty, it is entirely safe to clean it twice. Drying is the stage where many collectors make critical mistakes. As soon as you lift the vinyl from the washer basin, wipe it immediately with a clean, pre-washed drying cloth. Always use a gentle, circular motion that follows the natural path of the grooves.
Spin-Clean emphasizes that records must be completely dry before you play them or place them back into storage. If any residual moisture remains, it can lead to static, surface noise, or mold contamination once the record is returned to a sleeve.
A brief period of air-drying after using the towel can also help eliminate remaining moisture before storage. Many collectors routinely place their vinyl in a dedicated drying rack for 15 to 30 minutes after wiping them down.
Once the record is entirely dry, place it directly into a clean sleeve. Utilizing brand-new anti-static inner sleeves is ideal, particularly if the original paper sleeve is dusty or worn out. Reusing a dirty old sleeve will quickly undo all of the cleaning work you just completed. Keeping your records in fresh sleeves also significantly reduces static buildup and protects the grooves from future environmental contamination.
