Fans of Dave Grohl will soon get a behind-the-scenes look at one of rock music’s most legendary destinations in the new Dave Grohl Sunset Marquee documentary, If These Walls Could Rock.
Directed by Tyler Measom and Craig A. Williams, the documentary explores the history of Los Angeles’ iconic Sunset Marquee Hotel through archival footage, animation, and interviews. According to a press release, the hotel became much more than a place for touring musicians to stay.
“It became a creative sanctuary where songs were written, debauchery was shared, and music history unfolded behind closed doors,” the film’s description states.
The documentary also tells the story of hotel founder George Rosenthal and his son, Mark Rosenthal, who transformed the former motel into one of the most recognizable landmarks in rock music.
In the film’s trailer, Dave Grohl reflects on the hotel’s legendary status, saying, “God, if a bomb went off in this joint, rock radio would be f*****.”
Alongside Grohl, the documentary features interviews with Slash, Lzzy Hale, Roger Daltrey, Joe Elliott, Nancy Wilson, Sheryl Crow, Morrissey, Gene Simmons, Sharon Osbourne, and Kelly Osbourne.
The Dave Grohl Sunset Marquee documentary, If These Walls Could Rock, opens Aug. 14 at Landmark Theatres Sunset in Los Angeles and will also be available on Apple TV and Amazon the same day. The Los Angeles screening will conclude with a Q&A featuring the directors and special guests.
